WWOA - History
The Wonderful World of Autism started in 2013 as a parent support group. Our objective is to support and educate parents and families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It has grown into an organization that not only supports the families, but promotes education and better services for children with ASD and special needs. We our based out of Camden City. We have meet at Ferry Avenue Branch Library 852 Ferry Ave, Camden NJ 08104 (due to Covid-19 we have been meeting virtually). Our mission is a wonderful world of collaboration between parents, professionals and community members who provide quality support, training, and programming that is accessible to all children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, special needs, and their families and those who work with them. We also provide opportunities for those living with ASD to overcome social barriers, enjoying group and leisure activities in the community.
We currently meet twice a month as a parent support group and once a month socially which includes social skills lesson and group activities in the community. As a support group we provide strategies to help our parents with child safety issues, severe physical behaviors and coping skills. We sometimes are just an outlet for our parents to vent and share their experience. We want our parents to know that they are not alone. Monthly, we meet socially in the community to help enhance the children social skills. We have participate in The Walk for Autism, as well as trips to amusement parks, bounce u, skating rinks, horseback riding, aquariums and etc.
