A Proud Parent of Very Special Children
I remember when my children were young and entering into Kindergarten. I had such high hopes. I just knew that they would be at the top of the principal list, and that they would be the smartest kid in their class. Well, to say the least I was sadly mistaken. I was told that my oldest was developmentally below level for kindergarten and needed an extra year. I was told that my second son was spoiled, and uncontrollable. The teacher actually told me to my face "he will not run my class." When it was time for my daughter to enter kindergarten, I hoped that it would be different for her. Unfortunately, after a few months in kindergarten I was told that she was struggling in reading and writing which eventually was diagnosed as dyslexia. I realized then that my children are special!!! Special in the way that they learn, socialize, focus, communicate with others, and special in the way that they handled their differences. They knew that had to work twice as hard as everyone else. They had to grow thick skin and needed to believe in themselves!!!!! My boys are both professional men. One is a computer programmer for Cononco Phillip, and one is a teacher in Washington DC. I'm so proud! I want to give a special shout out to my daughter who is a freshmen and a Cheerleader with a 2.8 after her first semester at Morgan State University. I'm just as proud as the mother of the child who has a 4.0. I know what hard work and dedication went into that 2.8. Keep it up Mookie!!!! With hard work, faith, and dedication you can do and be anything you want!!!!! Look at your brothers!!!! If you are a mother with special children, keep your head up. Know that success comes to ANYONE who really wants it and will work hard to get it!
