Powerful Interaction Collaboration between Home and School
We all know that Powerful interaction between teachers and students is a must, but sometimes we tend to overlook how important it is for parents, and teachers to have that same Powerful Interactions. In reading the book Powerful Interaction by Judy Jablon, Amy Dombre, and Charlotte Stetson, their research shows that when teachers make meaningful interactions with students it creates a great place and opportunity for learning. This is the same for Parents and teachers. Powerful interaction between Teachers and Parents will also create the same learning environment at home which in turn will continue to extend the learning opportunities for children. There are three steps used in the book to assist in creating powerful interactions in the classroom: Being Present in the moment, making the connection, and extending the learning. These same steps can be used to make the connection between home and school.
Being Present - How can parents be present in the schools?
, Volunteering
· Bringing class supplies and item
, Parent communication log books, and teacher’s blogs
· Bring and pick up your child from school
Making Connections- How can parents and teacher connect with each other?
· Friendly greetings
· Ask about your child’s day/ Ask parents about their day
· Being supportive
Extending Learning – How can you extend the student learning from school to home?
· Parents being informed!!! - Parents knowing the class monthly study
· Extend the study to the home environment
a. Teachers sending books related to the study home and parents reading books at home
b. Teacher giving Parents resource on outing and places related to the the study and parents taking their child on day trips to those specific places that are related to the study
· Teacher inviting parents and parents being involve with end of study celebration and school projects
The Ultimate goal is a positive school environment that encourages and motivates learning thru the child’s interest and play. What better way to achieve it then Home and School collaboratively working together!!!!!!
